Ten minutes of your time for my thesis? [23 Jun 2008|05:10pm]

Dear fanfic authors,

first of all I’m sorry if OT posting isn’t allowed in this community, but there’s no other way for me to do this; just delete this if it isn’t appropriate.

I’m a fanfic reader and occasional fanfic writer myself, so what did I pick for my thesis in communication sciences? Fan Fiction, of course. I designed a survey to find out more about our writing habits and media use; it takes about 10 minutes to complete.

If you could go here and fill it out, I’d be forever grateful. Of course I’ll publish some of the results at my journal in about a month or two, so you’ll know what happened with your answers.
The survey is completely anonymous; I have no way of finding out who gave which answers.

Please, please help a fellow fan out. It’s only ten minutes for you; it’s a very important part of my work for me.

This has been cross-posted like crazy, and I'm sorry for spamming you guys, I'm just a little desperate, too.

ATTENTION! [07 Nov 2006|04:45pm]

LISTEN UP! I've created a community called badass_rp.

This is a roleplaying community wherin only badass characters from any fandom may enter and play. How do you know if your character is a badass? Well.

1. He/she is amazing at fighting.
2. He/she likes fighting.
3. He/she is amazing at fighting and likes it, but chooses to banter their opponent into oblivion instead.
4. He/she has some sort of magical/mutant/whatever power, and enjoys using it. (No angsting over power allowed, folks. At the same time, no godmoding. Yeah, have fun with that one.)

This particular RP will be set in a bar. What could be more badass than a bar? Maybe a Guttermouth concert...but I digress. Anyway. Request to join the community, then send in a sample post to me at serialexperiments6@yahoo.com for approval. After that, the sky is the limit! In a bar.

It totally exists. Anyway. WTF new fic?

Fandom: X-Men (movieverse)
Pairing: Storm/Wolverine (vaguely)
Rating: PG
Notes: Written for 1sentence (which is misleading: it's 50 sentences!) and xposted there. And it's post-X3, so spoilers for that, if you haven't seen it?

Title: Alpha et Omega
Author: caudebac AKA Nita
Rating: PG-13 for language and content.

Snapple bottle caps went flying at him behind the teacher's back from all directions, and no one said anything. No one even knew if the rumors were true, but really, who even cared?

The new girl at school who, adorned with trophy men like the sluts that some girls are, whispered, He's never with a girl, having never spoken to the boy that she knew of for only a month. It was the new sport, and everyone in the school was a player.

Summary: A story about bullying. acceptance, tolerance, and in the end, how there isn't always a happy ending to it all.

the fanfiction revolution [18 Feb 2006|01:22pm]

[ mood | revolutionary ]

Hey everyone, in case you weren't aware, last night pocky_slash and I started the Fanfiction Revolution. The wave of the future is Real Person/Fictional character slash. Anyway, this morning I was looking at our list of new OTPs and giggling at how hysterical they were, and thinking how funny it would be to write some of them for real. Well, you know, for ironic real.

Maybe if other people were interested we could set up some sort of randomizer and you would get a Real Person and a Fictional Person and have to figure out how to integrate them and write bizarre, hilarious, out-of-character slash? Obviously they wouldn't have to be long or anything... just ridiculous.

Sample pairings we invented: Luke Skywalker/Sebastian Arcelus, Taye Diggs/House, Mimi/Benjamin Harrison, Angelina Jolie/Pink Fuzzy Bra Girl. (These are all Rent-related because it started off in the rentsecrets comments, but we could expland the Fanfiction Revolution to other fandoms.)

A taste of how fun this would be!Collapse )

So, you know, if you'd be interested leave a comment, and if you have any suggestions or anything... you know... also leave a comment. I sincerely hope that you can all embrace the potential hiliarity the Fanfiction Revolution has to offer.

[27 Jul 2005|12:35pm]

Hey guys, I'm just popping in to completely and blatantly plug my new community.

A place to post lyrics that inspire or compliment slash. Or lyrics that are just plain slashy! Any fandom, any [slash] pairing, the idea is to generate lots of stories from lyrics that maybe you've never read, never thought of in a slashy way, etc. Or maybe you've got these great slashy lyrics but don't think you could do them justice in a story, so you'd love to see someone else attempt it! The stories do NOT have to be songfics, they should just capture the general mood/narrative of the song, depending on what works best. Post lyrics, stories, chat about the bands or songs, download them, broaden your musical horizons!

Tell your friends; the more fandoms involved, the better. Maybe you'll discover and fall in love with a fandom you only considered due to the song it's been attached to!

Thanks so much, x-posted everywhere (jacked_up, m8n_slash, below14thstreet, collectivewords, everything_lotr, technicolorfic)

Rewritten [11 May 2005|09:41am]

[ mood | busy ]

I wrote this yesterday, rather unexpectedly... it's rather an odd fic, and I'm not sure what to make of it, but I'm glad I wrote something after a very long period of inactivity.

Title: Rewritten
Rating: PG
Pairing: Sirius/Remus
Word Count: 1495
Summary: Remus is older, wiser, and rethinking history.
A/N: This was inspired, strangely enough, by Wordsworth - and not Ian McEwan, as it may seem.

( What does it mean to be alive? )

Poem! [24 Apr 2005|10:07pm]

Wow, I haven't written here in a WHILE...

Here's a poem I wrote the other day after a fight with the parents. >.<

Eight stanzas, four lines each, all rhyming. Warning: Cliches may ensue. Criticisms are wanted.

fic - dps - neil/todd - prelude to a yawp. [10 Mar 2005|06:43pm]

Title: Prelude to a Yawp
Author: Kait (pocky_slash)
Fandom: Dead Poets Society, Neil/Todd
Disclaimer: Neil, Todd, et al do not belong to me. Hell, I tried to get quatredeathlady and _morning_glow to turn the movie off before... you know. Things would have ended a lot differently if they did.
Rating: PG-ish
Summary: Keating is right - it does scare the hell out of him.
Notes: For the cues "calm before the storm" challenge. around... i dunno, forty-ish minutes? I stopped at the end to go to class and then taked the last paragraph or so on but... yes. First time publicly writing this pairing. It was fun! But I don't know if something like this has been done before or... anything. ::goes back to the land of writing papers all the fucking time::

( prelude to a yawp - neil/todd - 1172 words - pg )

note: x-posted to cues and dps_fans AND pocky_slash. I don't think there are any crossovers in any of those communities, though, so it shouldn't be a problem.

happy valentine's day! [14 Feb 2005|05:11pm]

Hey everyone,

50 ways to leave your lover is up and running. Although there didn't end up being 50 stories (~_~), there are still some good ones, and odds are good that at least one is from one of your fandoms.

So... please check it out, and happy Valentine's Day :)

*coughs* Merry Christmas? [06 Jan 2005|12:43pm]

Have some festive XMM Erik/Charles! Or, um, don't. A few notes about this story (these stories)... I found it in my "unfinished stuff" folder, realized it was mostly done, and finished it up. But what's great about it is that the "last edited" date on the file was 10/31/04. So... apparently I write Christmas stories on Halloween, and post them on Epiphany. (By February I hope to post this Arbor Day story I've been working on.)

Also the first ficlet is basically just background for the second story. It's sort of the same story. But different. Er... this is really like 1.5 stories.

... Yes.

Title: By the Chimney With Care
Rating: PG
Category: E/C fluff
Words: 866
Summary: Christmas at the school, and Erik, Charles, Jean, and Scott are decorating.Collapse )

Title: Trivial Pursuits
Rating: PG-13
Category: E/C, slightly less fluffy than the first part but still pretty fuzzy
Words: 2034
Summary: Christmas Eve finds Erik and Charles exchanging gifts with their students, and some stuff happens. I'm lame at summarizing. There's a board game and it's not chess. It's Erik and Charles and it's not angst. Mostly. Oh, it's madness.Collapse )

Feedback & criticism (constructive, instructive, destructive, or otherwise) welcome and appreciated.

fic: Lover, Brother, Bougainvillea [26 Oct 2004|07:16pm]

Holla. Some X-Men movieverse (ish) for you. Pre-movies. Comicverse hints. An indulgement of my adoration for mixing fanfic and Tori Amos (though not technically a songfic). Oh, the excitement.

Title: Lover, Brother, Bougainvillea
Rating: PG-13
Category: Erik/Charles, Erik/Mystique
Words: 3212
Summary: When did Erik meet Mystique? Five ways it could have happened. (Story concept based on penknife's Four Ways To Come In From The Cold, because I liked it and thought it could be intertesting with these two. Story and section titles from Tori Amos' "Cruel," which has nothing to do with the fic; I just thought they worked.)

onward!Collapse )

50 ways! [25 Oct 2004|04:33pm]

OK, since I heard from several of you, I thought I'd go ahead and give this a shot. (Thanks guys!)

I'm going to give you guys a chance to sign up first, partly so that then there will be other names attached to it and I won't feel like a big loser mentioning it among other fandoms.

But, after that, feel free to pass it around your respective fandoms or flists or whatever. Whoever you think might be interested. I'm only realy active (and then only vaguely) in TWW and XMM, so exposure beyond those would be great.

There must be 50 ways to leave your lover.

(I'm hoping the site will answer any questions you have, but feel free to shoot me a comment or email if you have any. Or if you have any suggestions for the site or project or... well, whatever.)

Oh, and for the keen-eyed among you, yes, that is an old Boron layout. Everything old is new again.

And i'm lazy.

a thought [24 Oct 2004|02:35pm]

Basically, I just think this would be a great title for a project and I thought I'd see who'd be interested. Who would be interested in participating in a cross-fandom call for stories called "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"?

Just... write a breakup story. Whatever fandom you want. Whatever kind of breakup you want. Whatever. And then we could get 50 of them and host them (I'd donate some frowl space) somewhere.

And it could be awesome.

Or it could be lame. Um... so let me know. (And if this does turn out to be something enough of you'd be interested in, you can all feel free to post it elsewhere in your individual fandoms.)

[07 Oct 2004|06:49pm]

Ttitle: A Part of Us
Author: caudebac
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Something new.... main character is Lily Evans.
Genre: Gen. Except for brief mention of being in love with James. Because, you know...she's marrying him. Can also think ANGST, because of one line of irony.
Summary: A few days before the wedding, Lily is thinking about her husband's friends, but basically Sirius. Why hasn't she seen Sirius' family? And what does James mean by saying, 'They can't make it.'
Author's note: This story may suck, who knows. But I'll tell you now, I'm hella proud of it. First of all, it's not that angsty, I worked pretty well on it while listening to great songs, ("Candle in the Wind"; "Happy X-mas") and the end is abrupt, like some other stories I've written that you guys like---but on the optimistic side. Like I said, this is a different approach, not my exact style. But let me know what you think.

( And one never saw James without Sirius. That Lily knew well enough. )
